Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing

Overview
The Department of Maternal Health is committed to facilitating students’ personal and professional development within a supportive, respectful, and flexible environment. The clinical laboratories provide students with an opportunity to learn and develop the skills essential to midwifery practice within a supportive environment. During the time spent in the clinical skill laboratories, students are introduced to a range of clinical skills essential for safe practice under supervision.
The clinical services of the department include clinical supervision of students, patient care, in-service education, conduction of awareness programs, health screening, clinical administration, and research activities.
 
Aim
The aim of the Maternal Health Nursing program is to prepare undergraduates and postgraduates students to assume and perform responsibilities as a registered nurse and specialists, educators, and administrators in a wide variety of Obstetric and Gynecological care setting.

General Objectives
Student will acquire in-depth knowledge regarding obstetrics and gynecological nursing and to develop skills in the management of antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal women in hospital and community. 
 
Specific Objectives
On completion of academic & clinical experience, the students will be able to,
  • Understand the female reproductive system, embryological and fetal developments.
  • Performs assessment with good skills.
  • Diagnosis and manages the health needs of antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal mothers.
  • Observes, assists, and conducts deliveries with good skills.
  • Identifies high risk antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal mothers.
  • Identifies high risk Newborn.
  • Assist in various investigation OPD & ward.
  • Provide quality nursing care to patients and families in the hospital, as well as in the community,  through a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Provide advisory and consultation services in the field of nursing service, education, and research.
  • Build up research potential in the Department
  • Maintain prompt and precise records.
  • Motivate patients for early treatment and follow up
