Child Health Nursing

Overview
The department of Child Health Nursing provides courses within the framework of the curriculum of SDMIONS. Faculty at the department provide a self-directed learning environment which positions the students to develop the knowledge and skills required to respond to health care needs of infants and children and their family in a variety of settings. Emphasis is given to evidence-based practice to safeguard the health of the child and the family. The faculty and staff engage in the interactive process with students. Together, students and faculty to co-create a milieu of respectful questioning, mutual growth, and evaluation. Students are encouraged to develop self-confidence while caring for children & their families.
 
Aim
The aim of the Child Health Nursing department is to prepare graduates having specialized knowledge and skills imbibed with appropriate attitude to assume responsibilities as registered nurses and excel in various expanded and extended nursing Roles in a wide variety of settings.

The department of Child Health Nursing aspires to be a model of excellence for innovative teaching, dynamic research activities, and creative evidence-based approaches to practice in care of children and their families.

General Objectives
The student will gain in-depth knowledge and skills required to respond to the health care needs of infants and children.
 
Specific Objectives
On completion of the academic course, the student will be able to
  • View the children & their families requiring safe and competent care within the context of culture, religion, and acceptable social norms and practice.
  • Promote critical thinking, practice effective communication, and apply Evidence-Based Nursing interventions which are vital for planning, implementation, and evaluation in care of children & their families.
  • Performs assessment of growth and development and identifies any deviation from normal by thorough physical examination and history taking.
  • Participates actively towards the promotion of independent and collaborative research
