Community Health Nursing

Overview
The Department of Community Health Nursing is focused on fostering and strengthening the relationship of the college with the community. The Department imparts quality education to the students and is committed to preparing them as exemplary community health nurses. The Department creatively plans all of its activities towards strengthening the human and technical skills of its students to enable them to provide quality service to individual’s families and the community.
 
Aim
The aim of community health nursing is to promote wellness in individuals, families, and communities while acknowledging their diversity, unique characteristics, and abilities. The course is geared towards equipping the graduates with the core competencies to implement various interventions including health promotion, disease prevention, and direct holist clinical care strategies.
 
Vision   
The vision of the Department of Community Health Nursing is to equip the graduate nurses with the knowledge and experience necessary in order to develop excellence in the promotion and maintenance of health through various activities in education. Practice Research and Administration.
 
Mission
The mission of the Department of Community Health Nursing is to achieve excellence in teaching and learning in the area of the community through developing and executing strong educational programs and research activities: ultimately leading to the enhanced care of the community
 
General Objectives
At the end of the community postings, students are able to acquire adequate knowledge, develop desirable attitudes and skills (Practice) in taking care of individual, family, and community with the effective utilization of available resources in the community.
 
Specific Objectives
  • Impart quality education to the students in the field of public health.
  • Prepare the students to become nursing leaders and efficient professional nurses in community settings.
  • Emphasize the importance of health education in both communities for preparing professional nurses to increase the individual, family and community awareness towards achieving self-care
  • Collaborative with public and private organizations in meeting the health needs of the community.
  • Organize developmental programs for the staff of the Department in order to enhance their knowledge and skills.
  • Contribute to the body of knowledge of public health nursing through research, health education, and publications.
  • Enable students and staff to consistently and constantly discharge holistic and culture-sensitive health care services to individuals, groups, and families.
  • Promote the concept of primary health care in promoting the health status of communities.
  • Produce competent counselors in a bid to minimize health/mental health concerns and problems.
