International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking

Department of Mental Health Nursing, NSS Unit of SDM Nursing College in association with Department of Psychiatry, SDM Medical College jointly organized “International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking” on 26th June, 2023 on the Theme of “People first: Stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention”. 
Dr. Niranjan Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Abhay Matkar, Head - Dept. of Psychiatry, Dr. David Kola, Principal, SDM Nursing College inaugurated the program. 
Dr. Balaram Naik, Principal, SDM Dental College, Shri V G Prabhu, Finance Officer, Dr. Makhdoom Killedar, Dy. Medical Superintendent, Faculty, Students of Nursing & Psychiatry department were present. 
Dr. Niranjan Kumar, Vice Chancellor told that:
•    We should go to society to educate the people on “prevention is better than cure” 
•    We should educate the Students of Schools and Colleges about the effects of Drug abuse
•    People should understand that health is more important than anything else
•    The effects of drug abusing causes different types of health issues

Dr. Abhay Matkar told that:
•    25% people has the effects of substance abuse
•    The nicotine in tobacco causes Oral Cancer
•    Todays’ youngsters must follow the good habits of Playing, Reading, Yoga and Meditation etc., than getting into the drug abuses. 
•    People involved in Drug Abuse will lose their study, career, economy and social status. 

The Nursing College Students presented the Posters to Vice Chancellor and other dignitaries on the effect of Smoking, Chewing Tobacco, Using Drugs and Alcohol Consumption. A Skit was played by the students of Nursing College on the theme for the awareness.   
Prof. Mallikarjun P., welcomed the guests. Mrs. Shruthi Y proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Khairoom Bi compered the program.
