The department of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery has made a beginning in collaboration with department of General Surgery from the time of inception of the hospital. It has been provided with a daily running O.P.D. exclusive operation theatre (armed with competent anaesthesiologists, state of the art operating microscope, micro surgical instruments and well trained and experienced Plastic Surgery staff, Intensive Care Unit looked after round the clock by well-trained nursing staff under the supervision of anaesthesiologists) and inpatient wards (catering to all the strata of the society). Accident and Emergency Care Unit (Casualty) is handling all the Plastic & Reconstructive Emergencies backed by round the clock C.T. and M.R.I Scan facilities from the department of radiology. Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is willing to expand and want to explore in Robotic Surgery, Hand transplant unit, Lymphatic surgery……….
Patient Care
Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery runs daily outpatient services between 9.00 am to 5.00pm and emergency services round the clock. It is backed by round the clock services of laboratory, radiology, accidents and emergencies and anaesthesiologist. Because of early availability of investigation reports and the availability of PACS- (picture archiving and communication system), definitive plan of treatment is often decided on the day of admission itself. Inter departmental references are done on the same day if necessary. Department of Physiotherapy and Re-habitation backed by Artificial Limb Centre is taking care of outpatients and admitted patients.

About the Staff
Prof. Niranjan Kumar, MBBS, M.S. (Gen.Surg.), M.Ch.(Plastic Surgery), FRCS, heads the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and also the Craniofacial Unit attached to the department. Dr. Niranjan Kumar completed his MBBS & MS (Gen.Surg.) from KMC, Mangalore and M.Ch. (Plastic Surgery) from Madras Medical College, Madras. He was awarded FRCS in Plastic Surgery in 2013 from the Royal College of Surgeons, London, United Kingdom. He was also awarded FRCS in Plastic surgery for the second time in 2018 from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow, Scotland. In 1993 he joined Manipal Hospital, Bangalore as Consultant and Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery & established Micro Vascular Surgery and Neuroplastica , a Craniofacial and Skull Base Surgery Unit. He joined SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital as Medical Director in 2004.
He is a life member of the APSI (Association of Plastic Surgeons of India), ISCLP & CA (Indian Society for Cleft Lip & Palate & Craniofacial Anomalies), Smile-Train, USA, FICS-IS (Faculty of International College of Surgeons – Indian Section), AOCMF (Association of Oral & Cranio Maxillofacial Surgeons), IMA (Indian Medical Association), ASI (Association of Surgeons of India), AMASI (Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India) and KAPRAS (Karnataka Association of Plastic and Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons).
His field of interest is Cleft Lip and Palate correction, Oral Cancer reconstruction, Skull base surgery, Brachial plexus surgery and Hypospadias correction.
Dr. Avinash Prabhujoined the department as Assistant Professor. He completed his MBBS from KMC, Manipal and MS (Gen. Surg). from JJMC, Davangere. He completed his M.Ch. (Plastic Surgery) from JNMC, Belgaum. He is now serving the department as Professor. He is a Life Member of IMA (Indian Medical Association), ASI (Association of Surgeons of India) APSI (Association of Plastic Surgeons of India), ISRM (Indian Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery), KAPRAS (Karnataka Association of Plastic and Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons) and ISCLP & CA (Indian Society for Cleft Lip & Palate & Craniofacial Anomalies).
His field of interest is Hand reconstruction, Vascular malformation, Micro Vascular Surgery, and Cosmetic (Aesthetic) surgery.
Dr. Anil R. completed MBBS from KVG Medical College Sullia and M.S General Surgery from the same Institution. He later did his M.Ch. Plastic Surgery from Vyedehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre Bengaluru. Presently he is working as Associate Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery.
His field of interest is Lower limb reconstruction, Oral Cancer reconstruction, Breast Reconstruction and Burns
