Mission
To partner with the SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital in creating high - quality medical personnel and providing excellent patient care through developing a vibrant information hub.
 
Objectives
The objectives of the Central Library are:
 
To develop an exhaustive collection of information resources in medical sciences and other related branches in conventional and digital formats based on the requirements of the academic and health care programmes run by the Institute and the requirements of the students and staff.
To establish need-based services that would satisfy users and optimize the use of information resources available in the immediate collection and accessible through the Internet.
To create the infrastructure necessary to offer high-quality services to the users.
To provide access to information resources from workplaces and homes by adopting the required technology.
To develop a team of motivated and well trained staff who will be instrumental in providing quality services.
To educate, train and help users to access information resources available in different formats and prepare them for life long independent learning. 
To frame policies necessary to provide satisfactory services to the users.
 
Timings & Holidays
Monday through Friday 8.00 a.m. to 12.00 midnight
Saturday 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.  (8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. during study vacation & exam)
Sundays and public holidays form  9.00 a.m. to 12.00 midnight
Central Library remains closed for ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ and ‘Bali Padyami’.
 
Membership
The students and teaching faculty and other staff of the SDM College of Medical Sciences are the regular users of the Library and are entitled for all the services offered by the Library. New staff members joining the Institute are required to apply for Library membership by submitting the identity card at the circulation counter along with two passport size photos. The membership card is issued to all registered staff and students who apply for library membership.

Staff
Central Library has a team of professionals, semi-professionals and staff trained in computer and information technology who endeavour to provide good service to user communities.
 
Advisory Committee
The Institute has constituted an advisory body that guides the functioning of the Central Library as well as the Physiotherapy, Nursing and Allied Sciences Library. The Committee is headed by the Medical Director as Chairman. Chief Librarian is the Member Secretary. Other members of the Committee include the Principal and Vice-principal of the SDM Medical College, Principal of the SDM College of Physiotherapy and the Principal of SDM Institute of Nursing Sciences, heads of selected departments, Student Welfare Officer (SWO) and student representatives from undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The Committee meets once in three months.
