Maharashtra Leads in Soyabean Procurement, Says Jayakumar Rawal. Maharashtra Leads in Soyabean Procurement

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, has directed the marketing department to establish a permanent mechanism for soyabean procurement to safeguard a smooth and difficulty-free procedure. This decision is taken to provide help to farmers and stabilise the soyabean market. Maharashtra has defeated all the other states that were at the top in soyabean production and became the number one soyabean buyer. Around 781,447 metric tonnes of soyabean have been purchased from 369,114 farmers in the state, which is the highest compared to other states.

The marketing minister of Maharashtra, Jayakumar Rawal, has announced that the procurement procedure is being accelerated to avoid any inconvenience to soyabean farmers. This action has been taken to transfer the money to the farmers’ accounts within 2 to 3 days. The soyabean procurement will continue till January 31, 2025, and if required, an extension of the procurement period will be requested from the Centre. The central government has declared a minimum support price of ₹4892 per quintal for 2024-25, which is ₹292 more than the previous year. Nanded and Hingoli districts in the state have become the most prominent procurement centres, with 1 lakh 290 metric tonnes of soyabean purchased from 57,528 farmers in Nanded.

Agro hub Set Along Samriddhi Highway.

Fadnavis gave a statement in which he mentioned that an agro hub must be planned along the Samriddhi Highway. Fadnavis also said that an agro hub should be set up along the Samridhi Highway under the Magnet Project. All the benefits and facilities must be set up at this place. He also gave orders to prepare and submit a plan for this agro hub.

Onion Storages

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, stressed the importance of planning clear criteria for the permanent procurement system and ensuring all facilities are in place so that the soyabean procurement system can continue without any interruptions. He also proposed to make Agro-Logistic Hubs in all four divisions of the state. Fadnavis, after realising the huge demand for onion storage, gave an idea to increase the number of onion storage structures which are commonly known as Kanda Chaal.

He stated that these structures must be made more widely so that they are available to all farmers. These are an effective and better option for storing onions. Marketing minister, Jaykumar Rawal issued a statement about his plans to set up market committees in the Konkan region for fish and in tribal areas for the regional produce, in line with the government’s goal of improving market access for farmers and local communities.

International Standard Market Proposed In Navi Mumbai

At the time of the presentation, Rajgopal Deora, Additional Chief Secretary of the marketing department, shared that plans are underway to set up an international-standard Mega Market in Navi Mumbai. An area of 200 to 250 acres in Mahabazar will be covered and offer a global platform for agricultural trade.

Jayakumar Rawal said that there will be a set up of a market committee in the Konkan region for fish and in the tribal areas for the local produce. Markey communities that have an income of more than one crore in Maharashtra state will be divided into sub-categories as 1 to 2.5 crore, two and a half crore to five crore, five to ten crore, and ten to twenty-five crore.
