The duration of the course is 4 ½ years of study and 1 year of internship after passing the final year examination.

Curriculum The competency-based Medical Education Curriculum as given by the National Medical Commission is being followed. The course is divided into three phases.  The broad outline of each is given below and a detailed syllabus can be obtained from University/ College Office

Phase I (First Professional MBBS)

  • 1-year duration consisting of 13 months.  Subjects covered are
  • Foundation course (1 month)
  • Human Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry Introduction to Community Medicine, Humanities
  • Early Clinical Exposure
  • Attitude. Ethics and Communication Module (AETCOM)
  • Examination is at the end of 1 year in three subjects (namely Human Anatomy, Physiology & Biochemistry)
Phase II (Second Professional MBBS)
  • 12 months duration.
  • To get into Phase II the student should have passed all three subjects of Phase I
  • Subjects covered in Second Professional are Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine and Toxicology
  • Introduction to clinical subjects including Community Medicine
  • Clinical postings
  • AETCOM
  • Examination is at the end of 12 months of joining in the subjects of Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology

Phase III (Third Professional MBBS Part I)

  • Continues after the second phase and the duration is further 13 months.
  • General Medicine, General Surgery, OBG. Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Otorhinolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Radiodiagnosis and Radiotherapy, Respiratory Medicine, Anaesthesiology
  • Clinical Subjects /postings
  • AETCOM
  • Examination in Third Professional MBBS Part I – are given in four subjects namely Community Medicine, ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) Ophthalmology and Forensic Medicine. 

 

Phase III (Third Professional MBBS Part II)
  • Final year examination is taken at the end of in the subjects of General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynaecology.  One has to pass in all subjects before proceeding to do an internship of 1 year, at the end of which one is eligible to register as a graduate with an M.B.B.S degree
  • The details of the syllabus and regulations are decided by which the college is affiliated to Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University Dharwad, Karnataka.

Language classes in KANNADA the local lingua and ENGLISH are regularly conducted to enable students to improve their communication skills.
