About Paediatric Speciality Department 

The Paediatric Department of Physiotherapy at the S.D.M College of Physiotherapy has a strong national reputation and a rich history of excellent student education, innovative research and valuable service to the profession of Physiotherapy and the community.
Physiotherapy in paediatric specialty has well qualified staff with well equipped department for better quality education & patient treatment. Rehabilitation for various musculoskeletal, nervous system and cardio-respiratory conditions are carried out by the specialized staff. The Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs prepare students for entry into the profession by teaching them to evaluate and manage patient’s problems with physical therapy effectively, in accordance with ethical principles. It also provides students with strategies to continually define and meet their own educational needs in order to keep skills and knowledge current throughout their professional careers. The Rehabilitation of patients is carried out based on the recent advances & its evidence with individualized therapy protocols. The Paediatric Physiotherapy Department is also associated with international universities like Manitoba University, Canada, for various research projects.
 
Teaching Programmes:
The students develop a broad and strong foundation of knowledge and skills in physiotherapy through our academic and clinical education. The vast clinical exposure further boosts the students to develop critical thinking and clinical reasoning that are required to practice physiotherapy independently.
Our undergraduate program provides theoretical, laboratory and clinical experiences with well qualified faculty, clinicians and researchers. As a result, the graduates are fully prepared to become an independent professional in the field of Physiotherapy.  The post-graduate program aims to develop strong knowledge of the recent advances in physiotherapy, along with the periodical seminars, journal clubs and case presentations.
 
Clinical Training:
Clinical training program for the students are designed to provide advanced knowledge and clinical skills in the various branches of paediatric physiotherapy. The program is designed to meet the needs of students for their clinical skills using evidence based principles in clinical decision making. In addition to coursework and practical demonstrations, students also participate in clinical rounds along with the physiotherapy faculty and pediatricians to learn various clinical conditions in paediatric patients in the wards, Neonatal ICU and Paediatric ICU. The student further learns to evaluate the patient, diagnose the condition and plan for the treatment, under the supervision and guidance of the experienced staff. The PACS (Picture Archiving Communication System) in OPD and wards, where investigations of patients can be viewed online, makes it easy for the students to further learn about the radiologic and laboratory reports.
