Diagnostic facilities
Pathology department is well equipped to carry out various haematology, clinical pathology, cytopathology, histopathology investigations and also perinatal autopsies. Haematology section has 6 part differential automated blood analysers and coagulometers. Clinical pathology wing which is located in sample collection centre performs routine urine analysis. Both direct and CT/USG guided FNACs are performed in cytopathology section. Pap smear reporting and fluid cytology are carried out using cytocentrifuge and thin-prep equipment’s. Histopathology section is equipped with fully automated tissue processor and state of art cutting and staining equipment’s. Frozen sections for rapid intraoperative consultation are regularly performed. It also has facilities to perform ancillary techniques like cell block preparation for cytology specimens, special stains, automated immunohistochemistry and Immunofluroscence. Department also handles the blood bank which has facilities for component preparation.
Teaching Program
Teaching in pathology for MBBS, BDS, MD, Nursing, Physiotherapy, BscMLT and other paramedical courses is carried out in the department. Department is well equipped with class rooms with audio-visual aids, demo rooms, and practical halls for effective teaching for medical students. For the purpose of undergraduate practical sessions 2 separate wet and dry halls with well-equipped instruments, best binocular microscopes, gross specimens and histopathology slides are provided to the UG students. An excellent museum containing more than 1000 specimens is a prized possession of this department. Regular topic seminars, journal clubs, gross specimen discussions, autopsy reviews, slide seminars are conducted in the department as a part of PG training program. Penta and Deca head microscopes are used for the PG teaching purpose. In addition postgraduates are posted to various diagnostic divisions of the department. They are also deputed to other well-known institutes like NIMHANS and KIDWAI for their training.
